AlphaEvolve is a distributed evolutionary framework that employs LLMs to alter source code directly, rather than adjusting numerical parameters. The procedure begins with a standard algorithm as the starting point (CFR+ for CFR tests; Uniform for PSRO solvers). Each cycle, a parent algorithm is chosen according to performance; its code is sent to an LLM (Gemini 2.5 Pro) with instructions to alter it; the new version is assessed on sample games; successful modifications join the population. The system allows multi-objective optimization—if several performance metrics are set, one is picked randomly each cycle to influence parent selection.
